Glass Collaboration

In 1997, Eric took a self-imposed sabbatical from the world of picture books to concentrate on his own art. His exploration of new materials led to a collaboration with glass artist Tom Patti, who, like Eric, lived and worked in western Massachusetts. This photograph records one of their early ideas: Eric’s acrylic-painted tissue encased between layers of Patti’s glass. The dynamic partnership yielded several realized works; in 2002 Tom Patti was commissioned for a monumental, site-specific glass installation (Tome, 2002)  for The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art.
