Homage to Morandi IV

eric-carle-Homage-Morandi-IV

In 2008, Eric began a series of collages in homage to the still-life paintings of the Italian artist Giorgio Morandi (1890–1964). Eric appreciated the minimalism of Morandi’s quiet forms and limited palette, and translated the artist’s arrangements of ceramic vessels into the layered language of collage. Eric’s subdued, almost somber tonalitiesevocative of Morandi’s subtle variations of color and lightreveal a palette unlike any other within Eric’s body of work. The spirit of homage in these collages reflects Eric’s deep admiration for the ideals and aesthetics of early 20th century modernism.
