This untitled and undated linoleum cut is presumed to be a self-portrait, representing what is, as of this writing, the earliest such example we have identified in Eric’s work. The composition depicts a male figure holding a paintbrush in his bent right hand and a palette in his left. His gaze is directed outward, conveying a contemplative or introspective mood. In the background, a house and telephone poles suggest a village or rural setting. The artist’s past appears to be receding into the background as he looks forward—perhaps toward his future as a practicing artist.
