Composed from carefully cut pieces of chipboard, this work belongs to a series that Eric repeatedly returned to as a form of artistic respite from his commissioned projects. When painting his signature tissue papers—his working palette—Eric often laid them atop chipboard, which absorbed the excess paint. Over time, these supports developed richly layered surfaces, their patinas becoming artworks in their own right. Eric found beauty in these leftover traces, transforming them into carefully composed collages.

Eric considered this untitled collage a landscape. The torn, free edges of the tan-colored paper lend the piece a naturalistic, almost earthen quality, and the stacked layers recall the striated formations of rock. A lighter horizontal passage bisects the composition, distinguishing the land below from the mountain beyond.
